Scheduled Air Carrier Service to South Bimini Airport by American Airlines to begin in early 2026

At the request of American Airlines and the Bimini Airport Develop Project and Airport Operator, BANSA was requested to develop and published an RNAV Instrument Approach Procedure for South Bimini Airport.

5 September 2025

The project began in June 2025 and is ahead of schedule for publication in the Bahamas Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) with an effective date of October 30, 2025.

The objective was to develop and publish a Required Navigation Performance (RNP) Instrument Approach Procedures (IAP) for South Bimini Airport (MYBS), an uncontrolled aerodrome where no air traffic control or flight information services is currently available.  The airport is located outside the Nassau Flight Information Region (FIR) and under the airspace jurisdiction of the FAA Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center.  The purpose of the RNP Approach is to allow scheduled air carrier services by American Airlines to depart Miami Airport to Bimini Airport utilizing an RJ-175 aircraft.  It is expected that American Airlines will start flight operations to Bimini in early 2026.  As a result of the hard work by BANSA AIS and ATM, the project is ahead of schedule and key milestones are on track with a flight check scheduled in September 2025.
